Memorial Oaks Chapel Obituaries

Brenham boy, 15, killed in rollover accident

The 15-year-old was athletic, too. He enjoyed playing soccer and football. He ran track and was on the Brenham High School swim team. He could often be found fishing, hunting or riding on a horse.Monday night, as Gonzalez was returning from feeding his horse Nightmare, the pickup he was driving flipped and rolled several times on Old Navasota Road in Brenham, ejecting the high school freshman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Upon receiving news of Gonzalez's death, Brenham ISD administrators released the following statement Tuesday via spokeswoman Jessica Johnston:"Our Cub Nation family is heartbroken today as we mourn the loss of one of our students. Counseling staff are available on campus for students who need emotional support during this difficult time. We ask our district and community to help us support those who are grieving and dealing with this terrible tragedy."Gonzalez's stepmother, Karla Orozco, described the boy as a happy teen who loved to be active, and he had a special relationship with Nightmare. "They spent a lot of time together."Gonzalez was often the "life of the party," his stepmom said."He was the most energetic and happiest person you've ever met," she said. "He was always on the go, always had something to do, and he was such a joker."According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Morgan, troopers and medics responded to the accident around 9:45 p.m. Monday. It appeared that Gonzalez had been driving along Old Navasota Road and, upon reaching a curve, flipped the vehicle.Troopers surmised that Gonzalez had lost control of the truck along the curve, and in attempting to steady the vehicle, he overcorrected.Morgan noted that Gonzalez had some form of identification on him, but he was unsure whether Gonzalez was licensed to drive independent...
